Challenges Climate change, change of land use, and overexploitation of natural resources are threatening biodiversity.
As the most important negative consequences of the change of biodiversity we observe:- the reduction of agricultural production potential and the related impact on food security
- the degradation of the vegetation cover and of soil fertility
- the invasion of exotic species
- the decline of stabilizing ecosystem functions
- the increase of fires
- the depletion of the groundwater level and
- and the increase of new infectious diseases and other health risks
As the most relevant consequences of these negative effects we identify:- the decline of life quality
- the degradation of rural livelihood
- the increase of infectious diseases
- the increase of environmental refugees
- the rural exodus and the acceleration of urbanisation
- and the increasing risk of violent conflicts
